1. Can you tell us what it is you’re doing now work wise?
I am currently working on my year ahead astrology for 2015 and setting up a past life regression workshop as well as trying very hard to increase my online content, workshops etc.
2. The Samsara Om – what does this mean and what does it involve?
Samsara means continuous flow, the Om makes it personal so it’s meant to remind us that we do indeed constantly and continually flow, to allow energy to move with and around us. The group meets in Emsworth on the last Thursday of the month, is open to anyone and it’s really a chance to relax, to meditate and to explore new subjects in a friendly environment. I am hoping to add guest speakers soon too, local speakers who can then provide their own services here in the South.
3. Do you use astrology in your daily life and when making choices?
I use bigger moves of the planets, not a day to day thing for me really, but I will consult my chart if there’s something specific I am working on or want to know the best time to start a new project. As I write most days I manage to keep ahead of what’s coming up, when writing yearly copy for example I know what the strongest theme of the year is likely to be.
4. What is the best thing about your work?
It allows me to be my own boss and that gives me the freedom to plan my own schedule and be mindful of my own energy. I can write when I am in the right space, rest when I have to and hopefully keep the panic down for deadlines. The best part of my work however is seeing how it can positively affect others, how they make changes in their own lives as they see just how powerful they are, love that moment.
5. Have you any spooky or unusual stories you can share from your ghost hunt days?
Most people have seen Pendle Hill or the Salmesbury Hall experiences, they had some challenging moments but really I haven’t done much on the Paranormal front since then; teaching and writing take up a lot of my time and energy.
6. Are there and books or courses you would recommend?
There are some great teachers and books out there but really it’s up to the individual to first choose what subjects they are interested in, then find a course that suits them. There are some great people bringing authors and speakers into communities, I go to Naked Dragon in Chertsey and Conscious Living in Bournemouth, both run by passionate individuals who know their stuff. Books that have inspired me aren’t necessarily spiritual titles or all that modern; one of my favourites is Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, the reflections of a Roman Emperor that are still relevant today.
7. How important is meditation to you?
It’s a daily practice, sometimes active when I walk the dog, sometimes a bit more formal and sometimes full on major path workings to bring energy and change into my life. It’s the line to higher consciousness, so very important.
8. Where do you see yourself in the next coming months/years within this field of work?
It will unfold, I would like Samsara Om to move into Portsmouth as well as Emsworth, perhaps further afield and on-line work is likely to increase too. But step by step, day by day!
9. Do you have plans to do more courses or bring out any more books next year?
No books planned at the moment, I am waiting for inspiration and really don’t want to just churn out a book for the sake of it, needs to be waiting to be written, to keep me awake at night until it is and that’s not happening yet. There will be more courses, I am already booked up for a few in 2015 and some of my own to be announced, trying to do one every six weeks or so but as it’s only me it takes time finding venues etc.
10. How do you like to chill out and relax and how would your friends describe you?
I walk my dog; meet friends for coffee and pretty much spend the rest of my downtime at home, maybe working on the house. Nothing madly exciting to be honest.
11. In a few words can you sum up your philosophy?
Never be so heavenly minded that you’re no earthly good.
12. Whose astrology chart have you found most interesting in the public eye?
I really don’t discuss people’s charts and don’t look at celebrity charts that often, sometimes I’m asked for magazines etc but really, they aren’t any different to the rest of us! We all have interesting charts, there’s always something great to discover.
13. How long have you been doing past life and astrology work?
I first started training here in Portsmouth in the early 1990’s so a very long time, but about 15 years professionally.
14. Can you describe your most memorable past life experience?
They all bear some relevance to this incarnation, which is of course their purpose. One that comes back time and time again however is when I was a monk in Italy, a traveller really and I loved the freedom it gave me. I owned nothing, I was fed by those I passed along the way, those I prayed with and listened to, but had no attachment to anything. Trying to keep life that simple is a lesson, it’s not easy in a modern world but I do come back to the feeling, the emotion of his existence and remind myself to be in the world but not of it.
15. What happens during a past life experience?
Have one and find out! It’s a wonderful experience where your soul communicates with you, it gives up some of it’s teachings and answers questions you may have in the here and now by reminding you of who you truly are.
The process is a very simple meditation, but the reality is your guides, angelic helpers and your own spiritual self-step up and bring you these messages. You get them, not the therapist, you see it, you feel it and you know it, for me that’s the most important thing. I don’t tell you anything, you find out for yourself. Afterwards the information you received is validated by it’s arrival in your life, you can find dates, understand your soul groups and hopefully make changes in your life for the positive. It is magical.
16. How are you spending Christmas this year?
I will be in Scotland with my family, walking the dog in the forest in the morning, eating in the afternoon and playing silly games and eating more food in the evening.
We are thrilled to end 2014 with an exclusive interview with John Holland, one of the top Spiritual Mediums on the world stage today. John has answered our questions in great depth and the answers offer both insight into what it’s like to be a practising medium and the fascinating subject of mediumship.
John Holland takes his work seriously and treats it with the utmost integrity and respect. Born with an inner-sense of knowing and a naturally gifted psychic medium, he has studied metaphysics throughout his life, spending over two intensive years in England, training and working with some of the top psychic mediums. He received confirmation of his special psychic abilities after a near-fatal accident when he was 30 years old, when his unique skills were amplified and brought to the surface. From then on, there was no turning back!
Today, John’s charismatic and lively demonstrations provide his audience with a rare opportunity to experience the fascinating phenomenon of mediumship, which he delivers with his distinctive style of humor, intensity, and compassion.
He loves to educate as much as being a medium, and offers a rare insight into the actual mechanics of mediumship, explaining just how he’s linking with spirit and the different forms of communication, both in words and images.
He is the author of the best sellers: Power of the Soul, Psychic Navigator, Born Knowing, The Psychic Tarot Oracle Deck, The Spirit Whisperer – Chronicles of a Medium, The Psychic Tarot For The Heart and his latest deck The Spirit Messages – The Daily Guidance Oracle Deck.
John can be heard every week, as he hosts his own Internet radio show, which has been running for 9 years on Hay House Radio®, called “Spirit Connections.”
1. You have written a many wonderful books; have you any plans this year to release any more books in 2015?
Spirit Messages has literally just launched, and was very well received at the Frankfurt Book Fair as well, so my publishers are pushing the launch of that at the moment. Yes, I am always considering what my next book might be like, but the market is changing rapidly at the moment, and with more and more time being spent developing on-line courses and ways for people to experience and learn about their psychic development, I just know that any new book will need to take these ideas on board. So to answer your question, watch this space!
2. You have a couple of oracle decks out and your new one The Spirit Messages just released, can you tell us more about these cards and what inspired you to create them?
I created Spirit Messages Oracle Deck to assist the user in getting support, comfort and divine guidance from Spirit, their loved ones, family, ancestors, friends, guides and helpers in the Spirit World. These cards will also help the user to develop a higher awareness of Spirit and to remind you that you’re never truly alone.
These extraordinary cards will bring insight and clarity around some of the major decision points in your life, or just to reaffirm that you’re making the right decisions. The Spirit World communicates through these cards with guidance and direction in matters of self-love, vulnerability, relationships, trust, and more. As you work with these cards, they will strengthen your natural ability of intuition and the beautiful loving bond that you and the Spirit World share.
This beautiful deck works for everyone, whether you’re a novice or someone who has frequently worked with oracle cards in the past. For example, you could begin by picking a card every day at random to help you remember that there is divine assistance for you and that you are never truly alone. If you’re facing a difficult situation or having to make a critical decision, then it might be a good time to let Spirit offer up a card, or you can ask a specific question of the cards. Spirit had considerable influence in the writing of these cards, and it’s hoped that they will offer assistance and support for every situation you encounter. Just remember, there’s a whole “spiritual team” that you can access anytime!
For example here are just a couple of sample cards:
Now is the time to love, nurture, and heal yourself! Self-love is not simply a state of mind about feeling good — it’s a state of appreciation for yourself that grows and matures from actions you take to support your body, mind, and soul.
Taking care and loving yourself is not a sign of being selfish, but one of necessity. This card is a timely reminder to acknowledge how much you’ve given to others, but in doing so, how you’ve also forgotten about your own needs and what’s truly good for you. When you focus on what you need as opposed to what you want, you’ll gain the strength and purpose to refrain from making the same mistakes. You’ll become more aware of past negative behaviour and thinking patterns that have caused you hurt or distress. As a result, you’ll be able to stop and change them into positive affirmations both now and for the future.
Learn to nurture yourself. Work with what keeps you healthy, such as good nutrition, exercise, meditation, and relaxation. Take time outdoors in nature, and choose wisely with whom you wish to surround yourself. When you learn to come from a place of self-love, you’ll be able to accept your weaknesses and acknowledge past mistakes. Forgive yourself, but know they were important lessons to bring you clarity and strength for the future. Be good to yourself — you deserve it!
Relationships are just mirror images of your own life — how you feel and treat yourself, as well as how you react and respond to different situations and people around you. Be aware that every relationship is an opportunity for soul growth.
We bring you this card, for we feel that you may be questioning a certain relationship in your life. This card also signifies that it may be time to evaluate and appreciate the relationships you have now or those from the past — good or bad. Even a difficult relationship can be a surprising spiritual catalyst for you. All relationships, whether they’re on an emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual level are part of the learning process and enlightenment of the soul.
No matter what category a relationship falls into, it acts as a teaching tool for the lessons your soul needs to learn. It can help you understand, change, or enhance your individual qualities. Ask yourself, if it was in the past, What did I learn from that relationship? Or if it’s a current relationship, ask yourself, What am I learning from this relationship? Different types of relationships have an uncanny way of identifying which aspects of your life need attention. At times, they reveal your vulnerabilities and insecurities, or your need for attention, approval, and acceptance. Let this card be the catalyst to either heal a current relationship or attract more positive relationships for the future.

3. Have you planned any workshops or tours for 2015, if so have you any details to share with us?
Yes, I have another action packed year ahead, and as always my calendar of events around this time is in constant flux with new events being posted weekly http://johnholland.com/events/2015 is a great way to see where I will be. For example, I will be teaching with some other great speakers including Sonia Choquette and Gregg Braden for a 5-day retreat in Cancun, New Mexico and then in June at the 5th Annual Afterlife Conference in Virginia Beach. In September, there’s a fascinating weekend conference at the Omega Institute called Energy, Mind & Spirit Conference, which will be a first and a powerful line up of speakers.
To round things off, I will be coming to London in October to give a demonstration and a weekend Mediumship Masterclass, and will be teaching with Tony Stockwell who I admire greatly, so we’re both excited about working together in the UK in 2015.
4. Have you always been aware and accepting of your gift and how old were you when you realised what was happening to you?
Well, I was born in the tough suburbs of Boston, and to be honest I can only say that it was a pretty difficult childhood, as I was often ridiculed by my family and society mainly for being a little sensitive, or just in their eyes odd – roughly translated as they didn’t know how to describe me in laymen’s terms. I was left feeling isolated because of my psychic abilities. So I struggled through my early teens, and tried not to deal with it, even though I couldn’t explain or tell anyone about the spirits I often saw walking through my bedroom at night! Even though this was a lonely time, I refused to acknowledge my gift until a near-fatal automobile accident (in my early 20’s) amplified my abilities to the point where I had to learn how to control what was once pushed away.
It was shortly after this, that I felt myself being drawn by the history and knowledge of spiritualism in England, and by luck opportunity presented itself for me to spend 2 years in the UK studying. I wrote about my story in my first book BORN KNOWING and how I trained by some of the top mediums in the British spiritualist organizations, which I still refer to this day as my “Spirit Boot Camp.” I eventually gained acceptance and respect within this tightly knit, often-conservative spiritual community and it was what set my on my path for the rest of my life.
5. Please briefly describe your first psychic experience. How old were you at the time?
Looking back on my early years, I guess learning to walk, speak, and eat was a breeze compared to the real lessons I’d end up having to master.
I often joke that when I was born, it wasn’t as though I shot out with an instruction manual titled How to Grow Up and Become a Medium. No, I was just a normal kid growing up in Boston, where I dealt with the happiness and sadness that were both a part of my early life. I felt like most other kids, but the truth of the matter is that I was different in the best way possible.
As for my first psychic experience, that’s a tough question as there were so many, but maybe around the age of six was my earliest recollection.
I was about six or seven. It was definitely past midnight, so my bedroom was pitch black. I’d woken up for no apparent reason and glanced at my two brothers who were asleep on the far side of the tiny, crowded room. Straining my eyes in the darkness to familiarize myself with my surroundings, I was comforted by the peeling ’60s-style green wallpaper I’d seen my entire life. As usual, clothes and toys were scattered all over the floor, which seemed very normal to me. Yet I shivered slightly as I felt the room’s temperature drop. What was going on?
Something was in the room. I could sense its presence, and then it made itself known. I was confused and fascinated, but surprisingly, I wasn’t scared. Out of the corner of my eye, I was drawn to a small spark of light dancing in the air. Was it the reflection of a headlight coming through the window, or the flickering streetlight? No, it was too tiny—it reminded me of a small pocket penlight, for it was just the smallest speck of illumination flitting about the room. Suddenly, it was as though the outside world had suddenly ceased to exist, and I couldn’t hear a thing. I was frozen in the moment.
The light gathered speed as I watched it bounce from one wall to another. I tried to figure out where it had come from, but there was no time to think. Soon, the light was hovering in front of my face, and before I could move or turn away, it seemed to shoot right through me. It felt like an exploding star, and it made my entire body vibrate. Every cell seemed to be charged with energy.
I knew that most kids would have crawled under their beds or screamed for their mothers, so it was strange that I wasn’t afraid. As a matter of fact, I felt illuminated from the inside out, even though my practical voice of reasoning was screaming, What was that?!
I turned around in my bed to see where the light was, but just as quickly as it had arrived, it vanished. As my mind returned to a semblance of consciousness, I remained upright for some time until my body slowly calmed down. As I pulled the blankets up even higher around me, I realized one thing—sleep was out of the question.
6. Being a Medium you talk to those who have crossed over and spirits. Do you remember ever passing on a message that was intense and emotional for you personally?
This is a story that I’ll always remember. It’s just one of those amazing messages—one of those that few mediums ever forget. I’ve been giving public demonstrations for many years, and over time, the audiences have grown, yet it really doesn’t matter whether there are ten or ten thousand. Sometimes, there’s one special message that seems to just stands out above the rest. Somehow, certain messages touch people in a profound way, and even if during the demonstration, they don’t get a message personally, one particular message resonates with them and they take home the message they heard and share it with others. One single message for one person can affect the many. Funnily enough, they often come right at the end of the demonstration, just when I think my link with the Spirit World is fading; it’s a though that last spirit leaps forward to grab my attention and they won’t go until I’ve made the connection for them. I have to keep my energy raised that bit longer, to keep the link open.
On this particular evening on my home turf in Boston, it was sell-out audience, and I was excited to be back. I’d even bought a new suit with a brilliant coloured shirt. My manager had everything organized, and we dressed the stage in black velvet with purple lighting, which looked awesome. There was single stool and an antique easel with a huge print of my latest book “Psychic Navigator.” We’d laid out over a dozen beautiful white roses across the front of the stage, all individually wrapped with white ribbons. It was my own way of finishing a message, as my runners would give the recipient one of the roses. It’s become my personal trademark, and people love taking them home to remember and honour the message they’ve just received.
It had been a brilliant evening, and as always, I had no idea of how much time I had left. I glanced down at the front of the stage and noticed there was just one rose left. At the same time, I got the signal to say I needed to stop. I knew as tired as I was that I had to squeeze in just one more! Immediately, I was drawn right to the back of the auditorium. In the far corner, I couldn’t see a thing, as the lighting was too dim. I knew I was being guided to one specific area of the auditorium. In my mind, I kept seeing and feeling as if I was going down in a plane. It was a terrifying feeling, and I could sense the panic and fear throughout my entire body. I knew I had to ask, and so I pointed towards the far left hand corner.
“Would someone understand about a plane accident, like a crash or a plane falling from the sky, and someone passed on that plane. I feel like this is a message from a young man!” No one uttered a word, but everyone almost simultaneously turned to face the back of the auditorium.
When you get such a strong link, as this was, I felt as though I was reliving the whole experience that the spirit must have gone through. I knew he was reaching out with all his love to make a connection with a woman. I was sure that she was at the back, sitting there in the darkness.
After the silence came this ever so soft voice. I could only hear her as she spoke back from the darkness. It sounded as though she was a young woman.
“John, I understand about a plane going down,” she almost whispered. A runner scrambled up the stairs and handed her a microphone.
“Would you understand that I have a male energy with me, who keeps telling me over and over, that he’s so sorry,” I said, but he wanted to go on. “I don’t feel as though he’s your father or an older male, more your age and I feel an overwhelming love coming your way. He’s quite calm and self-assured, but he’s telling me it was impossible to get through on his cell phone.”
At that, I felt his presence draw even closer. He clearly wanted my undivided attention. Well, he certainly had it now! I stepped forwards slightly to get out of the glare of a spotlight, so I could now see her face in the faint light, and saw how composed she was. I asked her to say her name.
“Amanda,” she answered and as she said her name I felt an upsurge of energy, this usually means I have the right person as the link becomes even stronger and intensifies.
“He’s telling me more Amanda” I went on, “about the rock?” Well, that was enough, as she gasped I knew that I’d touched a nerve, but I had something important to tell her. It was coming in thick and fast. I could tell that he was so happy to be here, talking to her. The only way I can describe the feeling, is like being on a computer when you download some software, but in my case it’s a jumble of images, feelings, emotions, words that miraculously get unscrambled as I speak. How I was going to deliver delicate information such as this was never easy.
“Amanda, he’s telling me he didn’t suffer, didn’t feel a thing, that he was with other brave people … does this mean anything to you?” Before she had a chance to answer, I felt the jolt of the crash. I quivered and knew immediately that he’d been on the third plane that had gone down on September 11th. Of course, I’d been glued to the news for days at the time, and even though I knew the facts, he was showing me how some of the passengers had tried to overcome the terrorists. I gently explained that I knew how he’d died, but more importantly, how brave he’d been. She just nodded. I had to compose myself for a second or two, and I could see tear streaked faces all around the audience, most of whom had turned to face the back as they wanted to see this young woman receive her special message.
This was without doubt one of those readings that I knew we’d all remember for a long time to come.
“He’s OK, you know that, but I’ll say this Amanda, he’s quite insistent. He wants me to mention the rock again, as though this is something significant for you.” I had no idea at that moment what sort of rock he was talking about. Then she spoke.
“Yes John, the rock is special. My husband and I chose a special rock down on Cape Cod, and every year on our wedding anniversary, we’d go and celebrate by sitting on the rock with a bottle of champagne.” She stopped to catch her breath, before continuing, “since September 11th, and every year without fail, I’ve gone back to that our rock on my own. I’ve often felt his presence there with me, but never knew for sure. Over the years, I’ve started to realize that I have to move on.” Before she could go on, he spoke again.
“Amanda, he’s telling me that he was with you every year. He was there, he touched and caressed your hair when you were thinking about him as you looked over the sunset on the ocean, and he knows how much you love and miss him, but he wants you to be happy. He knows about the new man in your life, and he wants you to be with him, to be happy again, and to let you know its okay to love and laugh again, you so deserve it.” The audience sat there in stunned silence, caught up in the tenderness of the message.
Amanda told me that indeed, she has met someone special, but she felt so guilty moving on. She said that the message she’d just received was what she so needed to hear. The gentleman that she’d been seeing for some time had asked her numerous times for her hand in marriage, but she been unable to answer him, constantly telling him she was not ready. Yet, her heart so wanted to completely love again. She also told me that he was willing to wait until she was ready. I thought to myself, but didn’t share it with the audience, what a lovely and strong man he sounded like, and that she really was meant to meet him.
“Finally John, I can go home and tell him ‘yes’ I am ready now.”
“Amanda he’s telling me how lucky he was to have you in his life, and all your memories together is exactly what he took with him when he passed, and that his last thoughts he had on that plane were of you and you only.” I could just hear his last faint whisper to her as he stepped back, so I repeated it as a whisper to her, “I’ll always love you.”
The whole audience almost dissolved into tears because not only were they touched by this delicate message, but also it brought back memories of that awful terrorist attack, and the impact it had on the world. I watched as the applause continued as people sitting in Amanda’s area stood up and hugged her as my last white rose was handed over to her.
I felt a pure sense of joy and happiness for Amanda. I was sure that she’d be able to move on with her life. I knew she’d always hold a space in her heart and her soul for her first husband, but with his blessing, she could continue to enjoy life to the fullest.
Through my work, I’ve discovered that many couples find it hard to move on when they lose a spouse or a partner. While some people feel guilty moving on, others feel like they’re cheating on the person that has passed, and yet some feel they don’t deserve to be happy and choose to go through the rest of their life alone. Those on the Other-Side don’t want us to linger in pain or to be alone. They know that as humans, how much we need to touch and to be touched, to hold and above all, we’re meant to love and to be loved. There’s never any judgment from them when it comes to affairs of the heart and when you feel you cannot get out of bed because of your sadness it is them who gently try to push you forward to move on.
To cope with the loss of your life partner, the best advice I can give is that they wouldn’t want you to suffer in silence alone. I recommend that you talk to someone about your feelings, be it a close friend or a professional therapist. It doesn’t help if you shut yourself off from those who were part of your life when you were a couple. Often, the spouse who’s left on Earth feels as if they’re not welcome in the old group, or they feel guilty about socializing. Yes, of course, it takes guts to go out alone and integrate back into the group, but you can do it. Often, you might find that your friends avoid the subject of your loss because they think it will be upsetting. Yet, true healing comes from talking about how you miss your beloved partner. I always recommend that you try to include your loved ones in events, parties, or family gatherings. Toast them, talk about them, ask for a sign, and even take out the pictures of them particularly when they were happy. Let them know how much you still love them, because they feel it all.
In almost every reading, a loved one comes through to validate a certain event. It could be a wedding, a baby shower, a special vacation cruise, a birthday party, or simply a walk on the beach. Just because they’re no longer in a body doesn’t mean they’re not enjoying being with their loved ones still.
There is work to do when you lose someone. You have to go through the bereavement process so that healing can only occur when you deal with your confusion, anger, and grief and know that you can stand on your own . . . with your loved one standing right beside you.
7. What has been your best and worst ‘wow’ or ‘knowing’ moment and how did/were you able to give this when received?
There have been so many messages over the years, I can’t comment on just one. But, I can say I am fascinated how Spirit works through me. I also am honored when people write me back and they tell me how one message changed their life and the lives around them.
8. Mediums talk about meditation, and altered states of awareness. Do you meditate and can you let me know what you do when you are too busy to meditate?
Yes, of course I try to meditate, but like all busy people there are days when my schedule gets in the way, such as when I am traveling, but event then, it’s possible. For example when I am sitting in a busy airport waiting for a flight, it’s possible to zone out all the announcements and noise for a few moments, and just meditate. Equally, when I am walking my dog I practice a beautiful walking meditation that I use.
I think that everyone can find a few moments in the day for quiet time, and my belief is that it doesn’t need to be a long deep meditation, sometimes just a few minutes of quiet reflection when the noise of all the mind chatter is softened for a bit, is all that is needed. Of course, many times I set up my personal space and put on one of my meditation CD’s
9. What advice would you give someone who has difficulties when learning/trying to meditate?
Start off simple. Find a CD where you feel a sense of connection with the voice, one that resonates with you and then don’t expect too much too quick. It takes time, and with gradual practice you start to go deeper and deeper. I never push my own meditation CD’s on anyone, but I’ve had loads of positive feedback, and I like to believe that they have helped people both who are experienced and those just starting out. For example I great starter would be one of my CD’s called Healing Relaxation & Psychic Awareness http://johnholland.com/store/audiocds as it’s a nice easy way of getting to know how meditation works.
10. Do you believe that sending out positive thoughts can help to aid negativity and also heal?
Yes, as anyone who either knows me, or who has seen me work will know that I am often heard to say “all thought creates reality” and “Your Loved Ones are just a Thought Away”. So yes, I believe in the whole positive thinking and how you can influence people, outcomes through positive thinking. It often takes a few moments to give of yourself, whether that’s gifts of your time, your love or something more physical … but when you offer positive thoughts combined with giving of yourself … it’s a wonderful recipe for healing … the body, the mind, the soul to uplift your spirit.
11. Do you ever get time for rest and relaxation and what do you do when you relaxing from work?
My schedule is pretty hectic for sure, but my pleasures are simple, in that I love spending time at home (when I can), spending time with my dog Koda, and special friends. I have been lucky to travel extensively with my work, and so when I get time to visit some favorite places both in the USA, the UK and Europe, then I jump at the chance.
12. In your view what would you say are the positives and negatives of the increased media exposure to spiritualism in general … and do you think the media portray the correct message and knowledge?
On the whole, it’s a good think that media and social media play such a large part of our daily lives, and without the exposure people wouldn’t get educated. Of course, there will always be negative media from time to time, but on the whole I would say that people are more aware of Spirit, more aware of leading a multi-sensory life, more aware of what intuition is and how to tap into it … and more aware of the beautiful balance of the body, mind and soul in their lifetimes.
13. If you weren’t a medium, what occupation would you now choose?
I’ve been a medium for so long, that I can’t imagine my life in any other way. I feel I dedicated my life to Spirit. But, if I did do something else, it would definitely would be working with animals.
14. Do you have a family? If so, what do they think about your mediumship?
Yes, I have a supportive family of brothers and sisters, who are all very proud of their brother and what I do, and how I help others. They may not be able to understand (what I do) but they are proud.
15. How would your friends describe you?
Ying Yang! I am John the medium … who is one man, the one who can jump on stage and talk to thousands of people, then there’s John at home, who’s quiet and thoughtful.
16. Could you sum up your philosophy in two or three sentences?
My philosophy is centered very much around being an authentic medium of total integrity and I try to tell people: That you are a soul that comes with a body – not a body that comes with a soul. As a soul we are always connected to each other – no matter what!
17. Work and personally, what would you like for the future?
To continue to be recognized for who and what I am, and to feel that when it’s my time to stop or that Spirit has other plans … then I know that whatever is then in front of me, I will step forwards with pride and satisfaction for everything I’ve achieved and done during my lifetime on this earth.

It was later on that the experiences all started to add up. In all honesty my parents and family thought I was just hyper but it was a meeting with a medium that helped my mum understand things. After my Nana’s passing, Mum was very sceptical about the idea of a ‘psychic’ and she never even anticipated the idea of evidential communication. Our next-door neighbour Susan had organised a well-known medium to come to give readings and one of the girls dropped out. She invited my mum and she thought it would be ‘just a bit of fun’ and said she’d come right after work (so would have the last slot). When the medium arrived she said that she couldn’t read anyone until she spoke to someone called ‘Diane’ (my mum’s name) as there were spirits who wouldn’t leave her alone all day. My mum was called and she had to leave work early (she was a hairdresser and had to leave someone’s perm in as she ran to relieve the medium). It was in this highly specific session the medium revealed my Nana’s name, street address and other fine details. The medium explained that ‘the blue eyed boy’ would be a powerful communicator for the other side and would be recognized by his teens and 17 to be exact. The medium revealed that I had indeed seen my Nana and that she would be my protector from the other side as I developed my skills and she’s not let me down!
3. Because of your experiences as a child/teenager, do you sympathize with children these days that have no idea what is happening to them and do you teach or help children/teens with gifts?
You know what – I do! I really get it that we are so sensitive as children but right now in our world I don’t feel we have all the resources to support them developing so young so I don’t encourage it. I always work with parents and encourage them to help the children be a child – sure they’re going to have experiences that are spiritual and they’re going to see angels but I wouldn’t suggest they learn to fine tune those skills until they’re in their late teens.
4. How did your friends and family react when your interest in the afterlife started to come out at such an early age?
I did have experiences but I also did have an amazing childhood – the visits began to fade out as I got older which was a huge relief because I was terrified to turn off the light for years. I remember one night seeing a queue of people waiting in my bedroom. It took me a long time to overcome that. I mean no child likes strangers in their bedroom – never mind strangers that no one else could see.
5. It’s unusual for someone as young as you to get into angels as a belief, how did it happen and was you ever ridiculed because of this and your beliefs?
There was some teasing but in all honesty I think because how ‘spot on’ my skills were very quickly a lot of my friends in school had respect. I was a little bit obsessed with it at first – I’d eat, breathe and sleep angels but when I learned that I was here to enjoy life too, I relaxed.
People think I’m still young now (26) but that’s over a decade I’ve been involved in angels and healing – but the truth is I’ve still got a lot to learn and I’m enjoying being a student of spirituality.
6. Do you have any goals over the coming years IE do you have any ambitions to go further with your abilities?
In honesty – I feel I could push my mediumship a little bit further and refine my evidence. I stopped being involved with spiritualist churches many years ago because I was faced with a lot of drama and backstabbing – it was a little daunting especially when you’re as sensitive as I am. Saying that, the place to master your craft on a mediumship level is on the platform, which I still do today (just not in a church). I often think of signing up for Tony Stockwell’s master classes – I truly believe he’s one of the most talented and evidential mediums of our time.
On another note another love has developed – Yoga. I have found my connection has strengthened as I’ve learned to look after my body. It’s true – the system of yoga does help connect the body, mind and soul as one. I feel there are so many mediums that forget about the body because they deal with spirit and work their mind through mental mediumship – but the body is here to be mastered too it’s a major reason why I adore yoga.
7. As a youngster, did you have any plans about what you might do job-wise when you grew up?
Early on I wanted to do this work but as I learned how emotionally heavy it could become I really didn’t want to anymore. In my teens I was dealing with overly emotional people – helping them through loss, divorce and even the menopause. It wasn’t ideal for a young man in his teens – so I quit, I put the angel cards away and I studied electronic music production and dreamed of a career as a DJ.
I learned quickly that I liked something I could be pretty good at it quickly. I ended up being signed to a booking agent and was djing the coolest parties in Glasgow and around Scotland – I was having a ball. It was when the Scottish Sun offered me a columnist position I rethought of my career choice and there were too many signs prompting me to speak for the angels to say no. I surrendered to this path and it’s been one fun and fulfilling ride.
8. How would your friends describe you?
They’d say I’m bossy, easily distracted and someone who enjoys nice things. They’ll tell you I’m opinionated but generous too. I love to share with my friends and I love to treat them. Living this life has given me many gifts that I’m so happy to share with my close ones. Oh! They’ll tell you I’m far too honest for my own good too haha!
9. How do you see your angels? Do they come to you as we perceive as big fluffy white beings, or as colourful beings?
So I see angels like lights but huge ones. They’re like these huge tall beings made of pure Holy light. Although the angels have always shown themselves to me like celebrities in my mind. Just like mediumship – they help you create a mental picture of them in your mind so you can understand them and the gifts they offer us. So I’ve made my own celebrity associations to certain Archangels so I can remember them and relate to them. For example David Bowie is Archangel Chamuel and Gabriel is Adele the singer.
10. How can angels help us in our daily lives?
The Angels have a purpose and that is to help us remember that we are never separate from love. I say remember because really on a soul level we all know that we come from love and we all know that we are ultimately spirit. They will give us what I call ‘demonstrations’ of their support by helping make our earthly life more comfortable by helping us discover love, create peaceful relationships and heal on a physical level.
The angels for me are the perfect example of us – we should aspire to be just like them. The angels help us discover how we can love more, accept better and support each other. They help us remember that we are love and how we can be loving.
11. Which Archangel do you work most often with?
I call on the angels in general in all honesty. I’ll say things like “thank you angels for supporting me as I serve spirit today” and I’ll trust the right angels are with me.
I am very drawn to Archangel Jeremiel because he’s the angel of forgiveness – his name means ‘Mercy of God’ and he guides the Guardian Angels to help us work through forgiveness which is so very important while we are here.
I also call on Raphael often as he protects travellers during journeys – and as I fly often I trust he’s got my back and guiding the flight safely to it’s destination.
12. Your first card deck: Angel Prayers Oracle is out now, what inspired you to bring out these cards?
I use angel cards in my daily spiritual practice. I love them but I needed a deck that was modern and relatable. So many decks out there are very much white and fluffy – I wanted a deck that had an edge and honoured the different types of people that walked the earth today. Inside you’ll find gentle angels, warrior like archangels and angels that are Asian, African, Hawaiian, Indian, Caucasian and more – my prayer is that they are re-latable for the 21st century believer.
13. Where can our readers purchase Angel Prayers Oracle Cards?
Amazon or via my website: www.kylegray.co.uk
14. You already have 2 books out, have you plans for any more books, if so when can we expect them to be available?
My third book launches in January 2015 and my fourth is in April! We’re also re-releasing my first book with new chapters and revised information! It’s going to be a very busy 2015!
15. Is there anything you haven’t achieved in your life that you would like to?
I used to make loads of goals but now I’m just surrendering to the flow of life. There’s one thing though: to buy my own place – that’s where I’m at right now, I’m ready to call a place my own and it’s definitely going to be in Glasgow!
16. If you could communicate with anyone, who would it be and why?
I’ve got 3 people in heaven I love who I’ve never met but I’m grateful for their spiritual input. Paramahansa Yogananda, Helen Duncan and Gerald Gardner – I’d love a dinner party with this mix of folk!
17. Spiritualism has gained much publicity and far more acceptance over the last few years. A lot of this has been through an increase in media programmes, publications and talented people like yourself. In your view what would you say are the positives and negatives of the increased media exposure to spiritualism in general, and do you think the media portray the correct message and knowledge?
What I think is important we all remember as mediums is that there’s enough room for everyone. There’s never going to be too many mediums but if we could all support each other and all focus on providing fabulous evidence it would be great. As long as we remember our integrity and not sell out on spirituality I think we’ll do great things and it’s nice to be in the media. I worked for the Scottish Sun for 5 years and always had a great experience with them – if we’re being honest and sharing with love then it’s never going to be bad.
19. Work and personally, what would you like for the future?
I’ll take it as it comes and make sure I smile along the way!
This interview was conducted 12 months before Colin passed into spirit.
Publicly acknowledged as ‘The Peoples Medium’, Colin is one of the world’s most renowned mediums, having worked as a Spiritualist Medium, registered healer and tutor for 35 years, 2012 saw Colin become a Spiritualist Minister, now officially known as The Reverend Colin Fry. Colin has numerous appearances on Television and radio shows on a national and international scope, Colin has undertaken many international tour dates including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Ireland, Finland and other European countries. Having been the Author of four best-selling books, including a ‘Sunday Times Best Seller’. He has also released his long awaited personal Autobiography ‘The Happy Medium’
1. Since our last interview with you in 2011 you have become an ordained Minister, what does this entail and is this something personal to you?
I was first approached about being a minister about 12 years ago and had been a officiating at funerals and blessings but my work was centred more around touring and television and so I couldn’t have the commitment that would have been needed until 2012 when I felt the time was right to become more involved and became a minister, which has bought a more less public role for me where I can be of support to those in need
2. We have noticed you are doing a 6ixth Sense Celebration Tour in 2015, can you tell us more about it?
With the enduring popularity of the 6ixth Sense from 2002, and still being enjoyed by the pubic I thought this was a time to celebrate the success and continue to help people.
3. You done a successful 6ixth Sense Television show that still shows on Satellite channels, would you ever consider doing this TV show again?
If I was offered this then I would defiantly think about it, yes and obviously it would have to be in the public interest and for them to approve off.,the public have been very supportive of the television shows which are still running
4. You have written a many wonderful books; have you any plans to release any more books in 2015?
I’ve always got ideas for new books in my head , my last one was launched about 15 months ago so I may leave it a couple more years before writing a follow up to my autobiography. I am not a natural writer so sitting and putting thoughts together to write a book takes a huge amount of time and is very tiring and I need my sleep now a days
5. Where can our readers find you in any of the main stream magazines?
I’ve stopped writing for main street magazines as I’ve felt that has been done and not always taken seriously so I would rather stick to writing for psychic news which I currently do and seem to have more serious subjects
6. What is your belief system about karma and reincarnation?
These words I feel are greatly misused, I personally don’t believe in reincarnation but I do respect those that do, In my time as a working medium I have never experienced anything that would encourage me to believe in the Buddhist principle if reincarnation but as I said I do have respect for those that do. As for karma, cause and effect again I feel the word is over used and especially if you look at social media’s where some people respond with ” karma will get them” I feel its used in such a way that is negative rather than looking spiritually and trying to solve the problem or look at why it s occurring. It is a spiritual law that effects all of us.I get despair sometimes with the spiritual movement and those that pursue themselves to be spiritual are sometimes so quick to condemn people.
7. What’s has been the most memorable experience in your work?
When working within mediumship , the messages we receive are not ours to keep so once its given its not ours to hold onto, certain parts of mediumship work may be remembered a little but I don’t believe it ours to keep
8. Have you always been aware and accepting of your gift and how old were you when you realized what was happening to you?
I don’t know any thing else, I’ve been aware of it as far back as i can remember, It has been part of me forever, I was about 13 – 15 when i first came to realise the importance and responsibility of what it meant, so this is around the time when I joined a spiritual church to understand more of what I already knew
9. What sense do you work with the most?
Sometimes clairaudience and clairvoyance but mostly Clairsentience, When you are dealing with different energy all the time it will come in in different forms as you and I are different energy
10. When did you first come into contact with Spiritualism and how?
Through the spiritual church , from a young age, I was asked to sit in a closed circle after the lady running it said I wasn’t supposed to be there , I said i was and so she said you can join me in circle and I developed from there
11. Many Polls show a large percentage that the public are believers in the work you do, but the media in general still portray afterlife workers in a negative way, and in the main ridicule what we do. Do you think the media should portray this kind of work in a more positive way?
I think when it comes to going onto television to defend mediumship some people that go onto the TV don’t always put their point across well and so it ends up slightly confusing. When I go on these sort of programmes to defend I have been told I do put up a good defence and know how answer back to these journalist, some of the y or less experienced mediums no disrespect but are interested in their 5 minutes of fame and being in a paper then get taken advantage of and the end results is then portrayed in negative
12. We know you must love what you do. So, what is the best part of being a Medium?
To serve God, To help, to know at the end of the day I am helping people
13. If you could communicate with anyone, who would it be and why?
I have been very fortunate that most of my family have come back to me – my mother came back the morning she passed,
14. You have worked with many mediums over the years, who in your opinion was the most Interesting to work with?
Gordon Smith I have great respect for,we worked together a number of years ago and he’s been my friend for many of years For evidence and outstanding mediumship ,then Gordon, and like very much Derek Acorah and Tony Stockwell ,again they are also friends of mine. I’ve worked with many accomplished mediums I’ve been very lucky
15. Why do you think the demand for this work is so high
Because everyone has someone that has died and they want to know where they are. This is why the physophy and spiritual teachings of the spiritualist movement are so important If we just deliever messages we are no better than a human text machine
16. What do you do for rest and relaxation?
Chill out with the dogs, go home to Spain, spend time with my husband. I enjoy relaxing for a month, then I’m looking forward to getting back to work as I enjoy it so much, Obviously i love spending time with my husband but I also love my work
17. Could you sum up your philosophy in two or three sentences?
Help as much as you can and harm as little as possible
18. Work and personally, what would you like for the future?
My aspiration for the spiritual movement, I would like to see it not so much as a private members club , and peoples authority being more interested than doing anything for the movement. I would like to see the doors of the Spiritualist Churches opened wider for those wanting to use them and more consideration on the philosophy of spiritualism and this movement to become much more of an evangelistic cause
